Location

Hotel Review: Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the Nile Plaza

In the heart of Cairo, and in one of its grandest districts which is home to many of the capital’s embassies, lies the exclusive Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the Nile Plaza. Such location allows guests to reach Tahir Square and the Egyptian Museum within minutes, whilst attractions such as Khan el-Khalili bazaar and the 12th century Citadel can be reached within a mere 15 minutes by car. The city’s main attraction, the pyramids of Giza, requires an easy 40 minute taxi ride.

Despite this central location, the Hotel oozes a sense of serenity and privacy from the bustling city on its doorsteps. Once you step inside, the noise of the city fades away and is replaced with the soothing ambience of the Hotel. The location speaks of what makes this Hotel; seclusion without sacrificing convenience.

Rooms

Given the Hotel’s conveniently perched location on the widest stretch of the Nile banks, it offers guests uninterrupted river views from the comfort of their rooms. Few establishments can claim such a prime spot, and the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo has definitely nabbed the best real estate plot, striving to provide only the best for its guests.

The accommodation options are nothing short of exceptional, offering a choice of 365 meticulously designed rooms and suites. Each space exudes the quintessential Four Seasons aesthetic, featuring pristine white linens adorned with the iconic logo, complemented by tranquil hues of earth, sand, and other natural elements that seamlessly blend with the Egyptian surroundings. Our premium Nile view room spanned 495 sq. ft of uncompromising luxury, boasting a generously-sized balcony overlooking the Nile, a sumptuous king-size bed adorned with plump pillows, and an expansive marble-clad bathroom replete with his and hers sinks, a separate spa bathtub, and a large walk-in shower. Naturally, every room is equipped with high-end amenities from the esteemed brand Byredo, ensuring that you feel as luxurious as the space itself.

Without a doubt, I recommend reserving a room with a view of the River Nile, with the higher floors offering the most spectacular vantage point. The tranquillity of the water imparts an idyllic ambiance to wake up to before venturing out into the vibrant streets of Cairo.

Culinary Delights

Having honed his culinary expertise in the gastronomic heartland of the Basque Country, in the kitchens of not one, but two, three Michelin Star restaurants (Arzak and Martín Berasategui), Executive Chef, Benat Alonso brings a wealth of Michelin-starred finesse to the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo. His culinary philosophy of ‘less is best,’ emphasising excellent products, genuine service and an emotional connection, filtered through to every dish we indulged in during our stay.

Breakfast

For me, breakfast holds the power to set the tone for the entire day, and at Restaurant Zitouni it was an extraordinary experience. The staff demonstrated unparalleled attentiveness, swiftly replenishing drinks and clearing plates, and went a step further by personally walking us through the different food stations and recommending specific dishes based on our taste preferences. The menu itself was a symphony of flavours, offering a spectrum from classic continental options to tantalising local delicacies. My stomach took to pairing the velvety ful medames, subtly laced with the delicate essence of tahini, with a perfectly cooked poached egg, its golden yolk cascading in the perfect amount of silken stream. Of course, I could not resist a sweet ending and found myself savouring every bite of a delicately crisp waffle adorned with a decadent drizzle of dark chocolate and crowned with glistening beads of berry compote.

Lunch and Dinner

Contrast to the lavish breakfast scene, lunch is an intimate affair. With nine distinguished restaurants, there’s an array of options for diners to replenish their stomachs throughout the day. Byblos, the latest addition to the Hotel’s outlets, is a visual masterpiece envisioned by the renowned French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. Its soothing blue and green tones, reminiscent of the landscapes of Lebanon, create an aesthetically enchanting setting for a leisurely lunch.

Executive chef, Benat, has masterfully infused his own creative touch, resulting in a contemporary interpretation of timeless Lebanese dishes. It stands as one of the finest Lebanese dining experiences I’ve encountered, as well as the best meal I had in Egypt. The freshness of the Fattoush salad, the smoothness of the Beiruti Hummus, and the perfectly charred flavours of the Baba Ghanouj all blended together to awaken the tastebuds, setting the stage for what was to follow. The spiced aromas of the succulent chicken shawarma and lamb kebabs that followed created a welcomed layer of complexity to the palate, and each bite was a harmonious symphony of flavours, leaving an indelible mark on the senses.

Relaxation and Rejuvenation

Indulge in a world of relaxation and rejuvenation at the Four Seasons Hotel in Cairo. While the outdoor pool beckons under the summer sun, what sets this downtown oasis apart is its exclusive indoor heated pool, providing a perfect retreat during the cooler winter months.  Complementing this is the spa’s other amenities, including a jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna, all designed to cocoon you in luxury. The spa also boasts a selection of treatment rooms, where you can immerse yourself in age-old beauty rituals inspired by the pharaohs. Don’t miss their signature Cleopatra bath ritual for the ultimate regal pampering.

For an alternative relaxing experience, the Hotel’s riverfront location provides access to a Nile cruise aboard a felucca, a traditional Egyptian sailboat. Contact concierge to embark on a peaceful 1-hour sunset sail, offering a fresh perspective of Cairo’s enchanting skyline.

My Two Cents

Overall Rating:
9.5/10

Choosing the right hotel for your holiday can be as important, if not more so than the actual holiday itself. What justifies the higher price tag for a luxury hotel is the combination of location, excellent food, personalised service, availability of activities and above all tranquillity and privacy. The Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the Nile Plaza has it all and then some more, providing an oasis in the heart of Cairo’s bustling streets and the perfect choice for your stay in Cairo.

  1. One of my favorite hotels in Cairo 😍 the food, coffee, and service were impeccable. I wish I would have had time to enjoy the Cleopatra bath ritual! I’ll have to revisit and make sure to add that to the itinerary. Great post!
